Haverford Scores Late to Slip by Franklin & Marshall

HAVERFORD, Pa. Henry Lanier's goal with 3:22 left to play proved to be the difference as Haverford slipped past Franklin & Marshall 9-8 in Centennial Conference action. The Diplomats fell to 8-4, 3-3 CC, while the Fords improved to 4-7, 2-3 CC.

Haverford struck early with a goal four minutes into the game before Colin McKew evened things up with an unassisted tally a minute later at 9:19. Haverford went up 2-1 before Billy Kempner netted a goal at 11:01 in the second quarter to tie the game at 2-2. The Fords answered with two straight, 10 seconds apart, to go up 4-2 with 7:38 left to the break, but Kempner countered eight seconds later at 7:31 to bring the Diplomats within a goal, 4-3, which stood as the halftime score.

The Fords scored at 13:49 in the third to go up 5-3, before F&M countered with three unanswered scores to take its first lead of the game, 6-5, with 8:27 remaining in the third. Kempner took a feed from Jimmy Wenk, which gave him a hat trick, before Wenk found A.J. Reichert a 1:20 later for the second tally of the run. McKew hooked up with Ben Ross for the final score of run.

The teams traded goals in the last eight minutes of the third and the first minute of the fourth with the Diplomats coming away with an 8-7 lead with 14:16 left in the game. Wenk tallied the first score for the Diplomats and Reichert netted the second goal in the first minute of the fourth. Haverford tied the game at 8-8 with 5:01 left and Lanier struck 1:23 later for the eventual game-winner.

Andrew Setian was 14 of 18 from the X and collected a game-high 10 groundballs.

Cameron Setian picked up 10 saves in the loss and fell to 8-4 while Joe Banno picked up the win with 13 stops.

The Diplomats held a 49-26 edge in groundballs with the Fords holding a slight 35-34 advantage in shots.

F&M returns to the field on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to No. 17 Gettysburg for a 4:00 p.m. game.
