Warner, Marston Lead #19 Mustangs in Romp over Hood

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Leah Warner (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) scored a career-high eight points with six assists while sophomore Mandy Marston (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) scored a career-high four goals as the 19th-ranked Mustangs beat Hood Wednesday, 16-4 at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (8-6, 5-3 CAC) won its fifth game out of six at home this season and will host St. Mary's (Md.) in the first round of the CAC Women's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday.

For Warner, it was her fifth game this season in which she has scored at least five points. She had a career-high seven points twice before netting eight against the Blazers. Her eight points are the second-most in a single-game in school history while her six assists are third.

The trio of Warner, Marston and sophomore Marissa Meiklejohn (Severn, Md./Old Mill) combined for eight of the Mustangs' 13 first-half goals as they built a 13-1 halftime lead. The three combined for 10 of Stevenson's 16 goals in the game as both Marston and Meiklejohn netted four each while Warner added two.

Meiklejohn's fourth goal of the game with 9:49 remaining that put the Mustangs in front 16-2 was her team-leading 36th of the season, one more than Warner as the two have combined for 71 this season.

Stevenson held a 39-11 advantage in shots and a 29-8 margin in ground balls.

Senior Bri Manko (Towson, Md./Franklin) had two goals, five ground balls and four caused turnovers while junior Meghan Najewicz (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) scored her first goal of the season on a free position shot in the first half.

Senior Lauren Taguding (Baltimore, Md./Towson) picked up her second goal of the season and the third of her career while adding three caused turnovers.

Senior Jenny Schroeder (Severn, Md./Seton Keough) totaled five saves in 55 minutes to even her record this season at 5-5.

Caitlin Lawrence led Hood (2-14, 0-8 CAC) with two goals, one assist and nine draw controls. Helene Butler made 14 saves.

STEVENSON, Md.--Hood (2-15, 0-8 CAC) ended its 2012 season with a 16-4 Capital Athletic Conference setback at No. 19 Stevenson (8-6, 5-3 CAC) Wednesday afternoon.

Caitlin Lawrence scored twice for the Blazers and Kati Vu and Julia Banks added single tallies. Lawrence also won nine draws and had an assist while Helene Butler turned aside 14 Mustang attempts and forced a pair of turnovers.

Lawrence registered one goal in each half, including a free-position score late in the second half. Banks netted her 23rd goal of the spring midway through the second half while Vu scored her 33rd goal of the spring off a feed from Lawrence in the final minute of regulation.

Vu ends her Blazer career in fourth place on Hood's all-time goal list with 92 and is third all-time in total points with 118. Banks finishes her career 10th all-time with 55 career tallies, while Lawrence heads into her senior campaign fifth in career goals (86), sixth in assists (20) and fifth in total points (106).

Butler leaves Hood with the fourth-highest career saves total (260) in just two seasons in the net.

Marissa Meiklejohn and Mandy Marston scored four goals apiece while Leah Warner scored twice and assisted on six tallies for the Mustangs.
