#1 Sea Gulls Sail by Wesley to Clinch 10th Straight CAC Title

SALISBURY, Md. No. 1 Salisbury clinched its 10th-consecutive Capital Athletic Conference regular season championship with a 21-3 win over Wesley College, Wednesday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

The Sea Gulls celebrated Senior Day and sent out the five graduating student-athletes in style. This is the last regular season home game for seniors Alyssa Fowler, Allie Wheatley, Mackenzie White, Amanda Holsclaw and Carrie Bray; the classmates were honored at halftime.

Holsclaw led the Salisbury (16-0, 8-0 CAC) attack with a game-high four goals and added an assist. Junior Lauren Feusahrens added a goal and four helpers for the Sea Gulls.

Wheatley netted three goals, giving her 136 for her career, which places her at No. 5 on the all-time Salisbury career goals list.

Junior Katie Bollhorst got the Sea Gulls on the board a little more than three minutes into the contest with an unassisted goal. Holsclaw scored her first goal of the game just 57 seconds later to give Salisbury an early 2-0 lead.

The Sea Gulls scored the first 10 goals of the contest before Alyssa Prudente scored with 7:33 remaining in the first half. Salisbury scored another five goals to go into the half with a 15-1 advantage. The maroon and gold controlled the scoresheet in the first half as well, outshooting Wesley (7-9, 1-7 CAC) 27-2, collecting five more ground balls, winning 12 more draw controls and committing five fewer turnovers.

Sophomore goalie Ashton Wheatley stopped one Wolverine shot to pick up the decision. Classmate Hannah Whiteley came out to start the second half in the cage and made two saves in her 19:42 of play. Freshman Alyssa Harmke finished out the final 10:18 of the Sea Gull victory and had a save.

Alyssa Prudente netted two goals for the Wolverines in the contest. Jen Jacobs scored the third Wesley goal.

Along with the regular season crown, Salisbury has earned a first-round bye in the CAC tournament. The Sea Gulls will next be in action on Tuesday, April 24, for the CAC semifinals against an opponent to be determined.

Salisbury (16-0, 8-0 CAC) scored the first ten goals of the game before Alyssa Prudente got Wesley on the board with 7:33 left in the first half. The Sea Gulls scored five-straight to end the period, including a buzzer-beater with one second remaining to go up 15-1 at halftime.

The Sea Gulls scored another five-straight to open the second before Prudente scored again with 5:27 left in regulation. Prudente found Jen Jacobs for another goal with 1:35 left to reach the final score.

Jorden Lutz led the Wolverines with four ground balls while Tristin Burris had a team-high two draw controls. Alyssa Batty made 12 saves in the 60 minute effort.

Amanda Holsclaw led SU with four goals and added an assist while Allie Wheatley notched the hat trick. Lauren Feusahrens also had five points on a goal and four assists.
