No. 13 Bullets Shut Down Diplomats in Second Half
F&M led 2-1 through the end of the first quarter with scores from A.J. Reichert and Tim Gaines. Reichert scored the first goal of the game at 12:46 and Gaines netted a shot with eight seconds left in the quarter.
The Bullets rallied for two straight scores to open the second quarter and took a 3-2 lead with 9:18 left before halftime before F&M matched Gettysburg with its own two-goal run to retake the lead, 4-3, with 6:34 left in the second. Kevin Kilpatrick scored unassisted at 7:58 and Ben Ross found James Wenk 1:24 later. The Bullets evened the game when Martin Manila scored with 57 seconds left before the break.
Gettysburg scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter to take a 7-4 lead. Colin McKew found Billy Kempner for the only goal by either team in the fourth quarter at 13:01 to make it 7-5.
F&M had multiple scoring opportunities in the fourth, when it outshot the Bullets 12-3, but J.T. McCook came up big for Gettysburg with four saves in the final four minutes.
Josh Kanter had a team-high four groundballs while Scott Beury and Jimmy Wenk finished with three apiece.
The Diplomats outshot Gettysburg, 32-25 and scooped more ground balls, 24-22.
Gettysburg forced 14 turnovers and won 10 of 16 faceoffs. McCook stopped eight shots to earn the win in goal while Cameron Setian (8-5) took the loss with eight saves.
The Diplomats host Dickinson Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
