Privateers Earn Senior Night Victory Over Sage

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 18, 2012) Maritime defeated visiting Sage, 18-12, Wednesday night in Skyline Conference action at Reinhart Field. The win improves the Privateers to 2-8 on the season, including a 2-6 record in Skyline play, while the Gators fall to 1-11 (0-6 Skyline).

Prior to the game, the team held a Senior Day ceremony to honor its five graduating seniors: Noelle Gajeski (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East), Laura Palino (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon), Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point), Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) and Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North).

It was Catherine Brady that led the way for Maritime, scoring the first two goals of the game and establishing the momentum early. With her third goal of the game at 9:27 of the first half that gave the Privateers a 7-3 lead, Brady recorded her 100th career point over the four years she has been an instrumental part of the program. She wasn't done there.

Brady ended the night with a team-high seven points on six goals and one assist. She now sits just three goals shy of 100 goals for her career with two games remaining. Brady also led all players with 11 draw controls and picked up five ground balls.

Saporito also had a fantastic performance for senior night, as she scored five goals, picked up five GBs and caused a game-high four turnovers, while Jackson scored three goals for her second hat trick in as many games and she also had five groundballs. In net, Palino made 12 saves to record her first career win.

Four other players scored one goal apiece for the Privateers: freshmen Tessa Jardine (Valley Stream, N.Y./Waterford), who also had a game-high four assists, Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward), Sarah DeBerardinis (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore Senior) and Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville), who tallied the first goal of her career.

For Sage, junior Alexa Veeder (Earlton, N.Y.) led all players with eight points on seven goals and one assist. Sophomore Alayna Kaiser (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) had three goals and one assist, while senior goalie Ginelle Butler (Malta, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the losing effort.

Maritime is right back in action tomorrow night, April 19, when they play host to Rutgers-Camden. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
