Hood Earns Bittersweet Win; Misses CAC on Coin Toss

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood (4-12, 2-6 CAC) defeated the Marymount Saints (5-10, 2-6 CAC), 10-6, Thursday in a Capital Athletic Conference match-up on Senior Day at Thomas Athletic Field.

The win forced the Blazers and Saints into a three-way tie for sixth place with Wesley. All three schools had identical conference records against each other, so the sixth spot in the playoffs was determined by a coin flip. Hood was the odd team out of the resulting coin flip, and since Marymount had defeated Wesley head-to-head in the regular season, the Saints secured the sixth and final playoff spot in the CAC tournament and will travel to third-seeded St. Mary's College (Md.) Sunday.

First-year Shane O'Keefe was virtually unstoppable on offense, scoring three goals and assisting on three more for the Blazers. Senior Corey Roberts had a memorable senior day by netting a hat trick to bring his career goal total to 63. He is three goals away from tying former teammate and current assistant coach Kris Miner '11 for the all-time lead in that category.

Randolph Clark, Trey Freeman, Joey O'Hara and Alex Engler added single tallies while Joseph McCulloh made 12 saves in the net. Clark also won seven face-offs while senior Hector Montoya was credited with four wins to bring his career total to 369. Senior Mike Gallion forced one Saint turnover and scooped two ground balls.

Hood scored the first three goals of the game and led 6-3 at halftime.

The Blazers will wrap up the 2012 season Friday, April 27, against Susquehanna University in a nonconference game at 4:00 p.m.
