Wheaton Doubles Up Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Senior attacker Hailey Colburn (Concord, NH) compiled seven goals with three assists as Wheaton defeated Western New England, 20-10, in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon (Apr. 19).

Sophomore attacker Charlotte DeSantis (Darien, CT) added four goals and three assists as the Lyons improved their record to 11-5. The Golden Bears fall to 5-11.

Western New England started strong taking a 4-1 lead when senior defender Veronica Miano (Southington, CT) scored with 14:34 left in the opening half.

Freshman midfielder Melanie Sharick (Amherst, MA) answered with a goal 27 seconds later as the Lyons netted seven of the next nine goals to take an 8-6 lead at halftime.

DeSantis tallied three straight goals as the visitors opened a 14-7 advantage with 23:35 to play. Colburn hit the net four straight times in a six-minute stretch to open a 19-9 lead with 7:29 left.

Senior midfielder Katie Powers (Ashburnham, MA) chipped-in with two goals and two assists while sophomore attacker Leila Mills (Brunswick, ME) notched a pair of goals for the Lyons.

Freshman goalie Katy Anaian (Belmont, mA) played the opening 30 minutes and made six saves. Junior defender Amy Moreira (Bristol, RI) had a goal, three assists, and six draw controls.

Western New England received two goals and assist from senior midfielders Liz McRoberts (Bourne, MA) and Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA), and junior attacker Ali Pepe (North Reading, MA). Junior attacker Julianne Green (Brightwaters, NY) fired in a pair of goals.

Toomy also gained six draw controls and caused two turnovers.
