No. 13 Colgate Comes from 5 Back to Edge No. 18 Bucknell

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Peter Baum's goal with two seconds left in regulation was the difference as No. 13 Colgate outlasted 18th-ranked Bucknell 11-10 to clinch the top seed and hosting duties for the 2012 edition of the League's men's lacrosse tournament, set to get underway next Friday.

The Raiders' victory also solidified the tournament's match-ups. Colgate will take on Bucknell for the second time in as many weeks, as the Bison drop to the fourth seed. Colgate will host Bucknell Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the first semifinal contest. Lehigh settles for the No. 2 seed and will go head-to-head with third-seeded Army in the second semifinal scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

The Raiders trailed 6-2 at halftime of Friday's contest, but scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter to even the game entering the final 15 minutes.

Colgate's victory drops Lehigh to the second seed. The Mountain Hawks can finish tied with Colgate at 5-1 in the Patriot League standings to share the regular-season title, but the Raiders' 11-10 overtime victory over Lehigh April 7 in Hamilton gives them the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Mountain Hawks close the regular season Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at rival Lafayette.

Army, which has made the Patriot League Tournament eight straight seasons, is the third seed. The Black Knights will battle Lehigh in the other semifinal next Friday in Hamilton, N.Y. Lehigh posted a 7-6 win in the regular-season meeting March 17.

The 2012 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Tournament begins Friday with the two semifinal contests and concludes Sunday, April 29 with the championship game at 3:00 p.m. All three games of the tournament will be televised nationally by CBS Sports Network, with Dave Ryan on the call and Evan Washburn providing the analysis.

LEWISBURG, Pa. (4/20/12) Junior Peter Baum scored with two seconds left in regulation to help No. 13 Colgate overcome a five-goal deficit to beat No. 18 Bucknell 11-10 on Friday night at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Raiders become the Patriot League regular season champions and will host the tournament next weekend.

Baum scored the game winning goal after beating his defender on a restart play from the sideline with eight seconds left, he then sprinted to the right side of the goal to sneak the ball past Kyle Feeney with two ticks remaining.

Baum finished the game four points on three goals and an assist to extend his scoring streak to 40-straight games, which is the fifth longest in the nation. Senior Jeff Ledwick scored two goals, while freshman Ryan Walsh scored one and dished out two assists for three points.

Matt Clarkson, Ryan Collins, John Donnally, Bobby Lawrence and Chris Zielinski each scored for the Raiders, while junior Robert Grabher collected a game-high 12 groundballs. Grabher also won 15 of 25 faceoffs, including 10 of 11 in the second and third quarters to help the Raiders mount their comeback. Grabher leads the Patriot League with 105 groundballs on the season.

Bucknell (9-6, 3-3) jumped out to a n early 6-1 lead midway through the second quarter before Ledwick scored with 1:07 left in the half to trim the Raiders halftime deficit to 6-2. Baum scored the Raiders first goal of the game to tie the score 1-1 in the first quarter, before the Bison rolled off five-straight to build the 6-1 lead.

Colgate (11-2, 5-1) opened the second half with six-straight goals, including four in the third quarter to tie the game, before taking its first lead of the game 7-6 on Baum's second goal of the game with 13:51 left in regulation. The Raiders then added to their lead with Ledwick's second goal to make the score 8-6 with 12:51 left.
