Oswego State Women's Lacrosse Falls to Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Oneonta closed out the first half with a 10-2 run that Oswego State (3-8, 0-6 SUNYAC) could not erase in a 21-9 loss to the Red Dragons (11-2, 4-2 SUNYAC) Saturday afternoon. Erin Cummings (Sr., Valley Cottage, N.Y.) paced the Lakers with six goals on seven shots, while Oneonta's Rebecca Monteith finished with ten points on seven goals and three assists.

Liz Conrad (Sr., Jackson, N.J.) won the opening draw control for Oswego State resulting in Cummings' first goal on the day 30 seconds into the game. Oneonta tied the game three minutes later with a goal from Rebecca Monteith before each team was held scoreless for the next eight minutes.

Senior Kelly Collins (Fairport, N.Y.) found Cummings open during a Laker fastbreak as a result of a quick clear attempt with nearly 12 minutes elapsed off the clock to put the visitors ahead by a goal. The lead did not last long as Monteith evened the score again one minute later.

Oneonta's Heidi Kissinger registered the game's next goal in the 17th minute to trigger five Red Dragon goals in a three-minute span. Cummings stopped the stretch with her 43rd marker of the season to bring the score to 7-3, but the home team closed out the half with five more goals to go along with Courtney Cosentino's (So., Syracuse, N.Y.) sixth goal of the year.

Oneonta quickly built on its 12-4 halftime lead with five goals in the first seven minutes to go ahead 17-4. Cummings scored added three more goals, while Collins recorded a free position shot and Miranda Czechowski (Fr., West Seneca, N.Y.) to round out the Laker scoring.

Ashlee Engel (Jr., Webster, N.Y.) suffered the loss in the cage by making 11 saves and allowing 18 goals in nearly 40 minutes. Lauren Marois (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) stopped two shots and gave up three goals in the final ten minutes. Laura Grose and Annelise Muscietta combined to tally nine saves.

Oswego State struggled to effectively clear its defensive zone during the contest, as the Lakers were 10 for 22.
