Fairfield Outguns Siena to Go 6-0 in the MAAC

Siena (6-10, 3-3) will be the No. 4 seed and earns a rematch with the top seeded Stags (12-3, 6-0) Friday at Canisius' Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y. in a 5:00 p.m. match-up.

The Saints finished in a three-way tie for third place in the MAAC with Marist and Iona. The teams all went 1-1 against each other, but the Red Foxes clinched the No. 3 seed by virtue of their win earlier this season over Canisius, which ended up as the No. 2 seed. In a head-to-head tie for fourth, the Saints secured the final spot in the tournament thanks to their 8-6 win over the Gaels last Saturday.

Siena played the MAAC regular season champions strong, setting up what should be a tightly contested semifinal match-up next weekend. Fairfield scored seven unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead midway through the first half, but for the final 45 minutes the teams played evenly with the Saints outscoring the Stags the remainder of the way.

Michelle Andreo led the Saints with four goals and in the process became just the eighth player in program history to eclipse 100 career points. Deirdre McQuillan added four points of her own and moved into a tie for second place on the program's all-time career scoring list with assistant coach Lindsey Rosecrans '09 at 153 career points.

Kristin McMillan added a hat trick coming off the bench while also posting game-highs of five draw controls and three groundballs.

Melanie Raso led Fairfield with five goals, while Chloe Mangan added four goals and two assists for the Stags which ended the Saints' four-game winning streak. Fairfield took advantage of their free-position attempts, connecting on six of their eight 8-meter shots.

With their win Saturday, Fairfield has captured 16 of 17 all-time meetings with the Saints. But this resilient, veteran Siena team was red-hot down the stretch and is poised to make a run at the program's first-ever MAAC Championship.
