Oregon Downs Denver to Clinch First MPSF Reg. Season Title

The loss snapped DU's 12-game winning streak, the longest in program history. The Pioneers finished the regular season 12-2 overall and 6-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, giving Denver the No. 2 seed in the MPSF Tournament, while the Ducks (12-4, 7-0 MPSF) clinched the top seed.

"Oregon came out and played a good game," head coach Liza Kelly said. "We were beat by a solid team, and we need to make some changes going into the MPSF Tournament next week. We are a much better team than what we showed this afternoon."

Sophomore Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.) scored a goal and had a pair of assists for Denver, while junior Mikayla Clark (Eden Prairie, Minn.) added two goals. Junior Kate Henrich (Lansdale, Pa.) led the defense with five draw controls and two caused turnovers.

The Pioneers struck first, when Etzel scored on a free position shot just 2:02 into the game, and held a 3-2 lead 11 minutes into the contest. However, Oregon scored four-straight goals over the following six minutes, and DU never got closer than two goals the rest of the way.

Kristina Barrett lead the way for the Ducks with four goals and two assists, and goalkeeper Caroline Federighi made 12 saves in the win.

The Pioneers enter the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 seed and host Stanford in the semifinals in Palo Alto, Calif., on Friday at 8:00 p.m. MT. The winner will advance to the championship game on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. MT.
