No. 6 Cabrini Runs by Neumann to Extend CSAC Streak

ASTON, Pa. Cabrini won its 109th consecutive game over a CSAC opponent with today's 22-4 win at Neumann. The teams also remembered the late Randy Mills, the former coach who started the men's lacrosse programs at both institutions.

Mills began the Cabrini program in 1995 and led the team through the 1996 campaign, posting a record of 10-14 in two years. In 1998, Mills began Neumann's team, compiling a 27-14 record in three years as the Knights' head coach.

Both teams wore "RM" stickers on the back of their helmets for today's game. Cabrini senior Brian Hill and Neumann senior Ryan O'Shea were presented with Randy Mills Memorial Awards prior to the game.

Once the opening whistle blew, the #6 Cavaliers were all business. Freshman Mike Leyden opened the scoring in the game's first minutes. Just 17 seconds later, sophomore JoJo Cooper found freshman Anthony DiNenno for the rookie's first collegiate point and a 2-0 lead.

Junior Bobby Thorp scored the first of his three goals at the 10:50 mark. Freshman Damian Sobieski netted the first of his four on the day just 38 seconds later. Thorp posted his third point of the day with 6:13 to play in the opening quarter when the junior found sophomore Matt Biegel for a 5-0 advantage.

Two minutes later, sophomore Corey Elmer found the net after a Hill assist. A goal by senior Andrew Zelinski and Leyden's second in the final 69 seconds of the first quarter gave the Blue and While a 8-0 lead.

Freshman Enrique Montoya opened the second quarter with the first of his pair of scores on the day. Neumann got on the board with 12:31 left in the half. Hill, Thorp and Sobieski found the net in the second quarter, sending Cabrini into halftime with a 12-1 lead.

The Blue and White continued its scoring into the second half as Sobieski completed his hat trick just over four minutes into the half. Freshman Ben Laffoon scored his third of the season at the 9:18 mark. Thorp's third of the afternoon came just about one minute later off a Sobieski pass.

Goals from Sobieski and freshman Anthony DiSanzo increased Cabrini's lead to 17-1 before Neumann found the back of the net at the third quarter buzzer.

Freshman Julius Mouser posted the Cavaliers' 18th goal of the day 34 seconds into the final period. Lafoon's second came just seconds before the Knights' third score of the game. Montoya's second and a goal by freshman Kevin MacQuilliam extended Cabrini's lead to 21-3.

After a Neumann goal, freshman Zach Logan scored his first collegiate goal to close the scoring.

Thorp and fellow junior Andrew Layne recorded three assists each.

Junior Andrew Kvech led the Blue and White with seven ground balls, while Cooper and Zelinski added six apiece. Senior John McSorley caused a pair of Neumann turnovers.

Senior Steven Miner and freshman Ryan O'Kane scored two goals each for Neumann (5-9, 2-4 CSAC).

The Cavaliers (11-2, 5-0 CSAC) will travel down the road on Wednesday to face Rosemont College. The action is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
