Franklin & Marshall Upends #9 Dickinson in Two OTs

LANCASTER, Pa. A.J. Reichert scored an unassisted goal 1:51 in the second overtime to give Franklin & Marshall an 11-10 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action. F&M improved to 9-5, 4-4 CC while the Red Devils fell to 11-3, 5-2 CC.

F&M took an 8-7 edge into the fourth quarter, but Dickinson quickly erased that lead with a goal at 11:41 to tie the game at 8-8. Colin McKew put the Diplomats back up a goal, 9-8, with an unassisted goal at 8:47, but the Red Devils responded and tied the game at 9-9 under a minute later. McKew hooked up with Reichert at 6:14 to give F&M a 10-9 edge and gained possession with under a minute to play looking to run out the clock.

An ill-advised shot by F&M led to the Red Devils gaining possession with 46 seconds left and Dickinson made the best of the opportunity with a tally at 23 seconds to send the game into the first overtime. Dickinson fired off two shots, but could not connect, which sent the game into the second overtime and setup Reichert's game-winner.

The Red Devils took a 1-0 edge at 7:34 before F&M netted two straight to go up 2-1 with 4:13 left in the first. Jimmy Wenk scored the first goal for F&M and McKew found Billy Kempner for the second score. Christian Beitel scored unassisted 13 seconds later and the teams went into the second tied at 2-2.

F&M scored two goals 56 seconds apart to go up 4-2 at 12:42 in the second quarter when Ben Ross deposited a Kevin Kilpatrick pass and Kempner found Sean Kenny. Beitel netted his second goal for Dickinson to make it 4-3, but F&M finished the half strong with two tallies in the last seven minutes of action. Kempner scored off a feed from Reichert at 7:09 and Kilpatrick buried a shot at 5:03 for the Diplomats.

Kempner gave F&M a 7-3 edge 56 seconds into the third quarter before the Red Devils went on a 4-0 run to tie at 7-7 with 2:09 left in the third. Reichert stopped the bleeding with an unassisted goal with 31 seconds remaining in the third to give the Diplomats its 8-7 lead.

Josh Kanter had five groundballs and two caused turnovers to pace the F&M defense and Andrew Setian went 15 for 25 from the X with five groundballs.

Cameron Setian had 16 saves and improved to 9-5 while Greg Hanley took the loss with eight stops.

F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats wrap up their season with a game against Scranton at 7:00 p.m.

(Lancaster, Pa.) The #9-ranked Dickinson College men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-10, double-overtime decision to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon.

First-year Tyler White (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) and junior Christian Beitel (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) sandwiched a pair of goals around tallies from the hosts to end the first quarter with the game tied, 2-2.

F&M went in front, 4-2, scoring twice in the opening three minutes. Beitel scored off an assist from Ward Gruppo (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) before the Diplomats answered with two more to lead, 6-3, at halftime.

The hosts struck again to open the third period, stretching the lead to 7-3 with 14:04 on the clock. The Red Devils rallied to tie the game, capitalizing on two extra-man goals from Nick Leon (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga). Sam Abramson (Alexandria, Va./Potomac) triggered the run, scoring off an assist from Matt Cherry (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor).

Leon finished an assist from Brian Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) to cut the lead to 7-5. Beital put away the second assist of the game for Richard Craft (Newtown Square, Pa./Episcopal) and Leon tied things up with another helper from Cannon at the 2:09 mark of the third quarter.
