Post Falls to Holy Family, Which Wins CAC Reg. Season Title

WATERBURY, Conn. Post lost its Senior Day contest, a CACC game, against conference leader Holy Family 18-8 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Eagles were led by junior Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, N.Y.) who tallied four goals, while graduate student Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn.) added five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Sophomore Meghan Diggett (East Islip, N.Y.) opened the scoring on a man-up goal at the 27:12 mark of the first half. Diggett took a feed from behind the cage from Alanna Bauche (Calgary, Alberta) to give Post (1-13, 0-11 CACC) a 1-0 lead.

After Holy Family (11-4, 10-1 CACC) opened up a six-goal advantage, 8-2, Kanavy scored three of the final four goals of the first period. Over the final 71 seconds of the stanza, Kanavy scored twice, including a free-position goal with two seconds to play. Post trailed 9-5 at halftime.

The Tigers grew the lead to nine goals behind the strength of a 5-0 run to make the score 15-6 with 9:58 to play in the game. After consecutive goals by Michalak, Holy Family scored the final three goals of the game.

Senior Michelle Chadwick (Miami, Fla.) made 15 saves for Post in the loss.

Post will conclude the 2012 campaign on Wednesday, April 25. The Eagles will travel to CACC foe Dominican for a 4:00 p.m. opening draw in Orangeburg, N.Y.

Waterbury, Conn. - Holy Family defeated Post by the score of 18-8 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest Sunday afternoon at LaMoy Field. In the process, the Tigers officially claimed the CACC regular season title outright for the first time in program history.

Holy Family extended its program-best winning streak to eight games and is now 11-4 overall and 10-1 in conference play. The victory also marked the most wins in a single season and most conference victories in a single season in program history. Post is now 1-13 overall and 0-11 in the CACC.

Senior Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) and junior Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) combined for ten goals to lead the Holy Family offense. Mansi, who recently became the program's all-time leading scorer, finished the game with five goals. McNesby added five goals and dished out two assists. In addition, she controlled 13 draws and recorded three ground balls as well as causing two turnovers.

Freshman Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) tallied four goals in the victory for the Tigers. Her four scores increased her season total to 36 goals, which broke Mansi's freshman record of 34 goals set in 2009.

For Post, junior Morgan Kanavy led the team with four goals, while graduate student Mallorie Michalak added five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Post scored the game's first goal to lead 1-0 early on, however Holy Family tacked on three straight goals to take a 3-1 advantage.

After a score by Post, Holy Family responded with five straight goals by five different players to take an 8-2 lead by the 8:58 mark in the half.

Post would go on to outscore Holy Family 3-1 the final five-plus minutes of the first half to cut the Tigers' lead to 9-5.

In the second half, the Holy Family defense limited Post to only three goals as the Tigers outscored the Eagles 9-3, while limiting them to only 13 shots in the half. Holy Family outshot Post 44-25 for the game and also controlled 20 draws as oppose to only seven by the Eagles.

Holy Family opened the second half with a 6-1 run to pull away from Post even further.

Senior Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made 14 saves in net for the Tigers, while her counterpart, senior Michelle Chadwick, made 15 stops for the Eagles.

Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, April 25 as the Tigers host cross-town rival Philadelphia University in the team's regular season finale. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
