Presbyterian Tops Seton Hill for First-Ever Victory

GREENSBURG, PA – The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team earned its first-ever victory in its inaugural season with a 15-10 win over the host Griffins of Seton Hill University on Sunday afternoon as sophomore tri-captain Shannon Strodel (Duluth, Ga.) led the way for the Blue Hose with five goals. PC is now 1-11 on the year, while the Griffins slip to 1-7 overall.

Freshman midfielder Trista Sturdivant (Street, Md.) and junior attacker Kelly Sisson (Greenville, S.C.) gave the Blue Hose a 2-0 lead at 29:12. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Harris (Garrison, Md.) pulled Seton Hill within one with her unassisted goal at 25:36. However, PC reeled off four unanswered goals, including a pair from Sturdivant, to push its lead to five. The Griffins responded with four unanswered goals of their own, including two from Harris in a 14-second span, to cut the lead to one (6-5) at halftime.

The Griffins' freshman attacker Krista Ocilka (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied the first goal of the second half to knot the game at 6-6. The Blue Hose had five different players score six consecutive goals, including two from Strodel, to make it 12-6 at 11:41. Ocilka stopped PC's 6-0 run with her unassisted goal at 10:42. Strodel notched two more and freshman attacker Sally Maple (Peachtree City, Ga.) added one to give the Blue Hose an eight-goal lead (15-7) with 5:45 left in the game. Seton Hill scored the game's final three goals for the final result of 15-10.

Ocilka led the Griffin offense with four goals, while Harris finished the day with a hat trick and sophomore midfielder Janette Kristich (Amherst, N.Y.) added a pair.

Strodel matched her season-high with five goals to pace PC, while Sisson and Sturdivant both finished the game with three goals each. Maple chipped in two goals and two assists and Sisson won six draw controls. Defensively, junior defenders Ashley Baker (Lancaster, S.C.) and Leigh Trouchet (Nashville, Tenn.) scooped up five ground balls apiece. Freshman Kira Stringer (Marietta, Ga.) made 10 stops in 60 minutes of action between the pipes.

Seton Hill will host Frostburg State University on Wednesday, April 5 at 4:00. The Blue Hose will host Ferrum College on April 9 at 1:00 in Old Bailey Stadium. Sunday's game will be PC's final home game of 2006.
