Terriers Close out Season with a loss at NEC

Henniker, N.H. Thomas College's season came to a close on Sunday afternoon as they fell 18-9 to the Pilgrims of New England College. First year Jennifer Day netted a hat trick and an assist in the loss. NEC's Amanda Naimie netted six goals on her way to becoming the Pilgrims all-time leading goal scorer with 177.

With the loss the Terriers end their 2012 season with a record of 5-7 and finish in fifth in the North Atlantic Conference East Division with a record of 2-4.

NEC lit up the scoreboard first when Sarah Merrill scored an unassisted goal in the sixth minute of play. The Terriers were quick to respond as Day scored her first goal off of pass from Ceara DiBiase evening the score.

The two teams would exchange goals before the Pilgrims would use a three goal run to building a 6-2 lead with 12:07 remaining in the first. The Terriers would cut the lead to 6-4 over the next five minutes as back-to-back goals by Brittany Premo and Day. NEC would grab a goal in the final seconds of the half as Merrill would connect with her third goal of game giving the Pilgrims the 7-4 halftime lead.

Each team would net a goal in the opening two minutes of the second half before NEC would go on a 7-0 run grabbing their largest lead of the game up 16-6 with 8:12 remaining in regulation. Thomas would cut the lead to 17-9 but that is as close as the Terriers would get as Merrill would add her fifth goal of the game in the final minutes giving NEC the 18-9 victory.

Thomas' Teshia Cates shoulders the loss despite making a respectable 12 saves, while NEC's Rebecca Harvey grabs the win for the Pilgrims with a three saver performance.

Along with Premo and Day; DiBiase and sophomore Kim Migliara also found the back of the net for the Terriers. DiBiase came through with two goals and Migliara added one goal for the visitors.
