Tigers Roll Over Mount St. Joseph

CINCINNATI Colorado College completed the regular season in style with a 17-4 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph on Sunday.

The Tigers improved to 13-3 and tied the program record for wins in a single season first set in 2004 and equaled last year.

CC controlled play at both ends of the field, holding an opponent to fewer than 10 goals for the ninth time while scoring enough to record a double-digit margin of victory for the seventh time.

Senior midfielder Grace Maloney found the cage on all three of her shots to help the Tigers build an 11-4 lead at the break.

Ellie Cole struck for a pair of markers in the first half, including the one that gave CC a 5-1 lead and proved to be her second game winner of the season. The junior attacker also recorded a pair of assists to finish the contest with four points.

Senior midfielder Amanda Holmes scores twice in a span of 25 seconds to trim the Lions' deficit to 9-3 with 5:51 to play in the first half, but that was as close as they would get.

Freshman attacker Virginia Logue recorded two goals and an assist, while senior attacker Leslie Jacoby, junior attacker Frances Staadt and freshman midfielder Dylan Voneiff all registered a pair of scores for Colorado College.

Junior goaltender Abby Fink steered aside 13 shots to record double-digit saves for the seventh time this season.

Junior midfielder Ginna Oates caused a season-high three turnovers and tied her season high with four ground balls.

The Tigers finished with a 34-22 advantage in total shots and a 24-17 edge in ground balls.

Junior goaltender Paige Holmes made 14 saves in slightly more than 55 minutes for Mount St. Joseph, which dropped to 3-8.

Colorado College returns to action on Saturday, April 28, when it plays Birmingham-Southern College in a semifinal game at the 2012 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in Sewanee, Tenn.
