Brigandi Ties Record as No. 4 Le Moyne Flies by AIC
Springfield, Mass. – Senior attacker Brittany Brigandi (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/UMass) tied the program's career goals record by scoring four in fourth-ranked Le Moyne's 21-2 win at American International on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 action at Abdow Field.
With the victory, the Dolphins clinched at least a share of the Northeast-10 Conference regular season title and will claim the championship outright with a victory over #7 Stonehill on Saturday.
The Dolphins scored the first nine goals of the game en route to their second straight 19-goal win over the Yellow Jackets. Junior attacker Kelly Condon (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) started the scoring with an unassisted goal in an extra-man situation at the 25:24 mark.
Brigandi followed two and one-half minutes later with her 56th goal of the campaign. Freshman midfielder Laura Hoffman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) converted a free-position shot for her fourth goal of the year with 20:13 remaining in the half. Junior attacker Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) netted her 41st goal of the season with 17:48 left to give the Dolphins a 4-0 lead.
Brigandi then scored three goals in a span of 74 seconds. Her first of the run came on a free-position shot with 16:33 remaining, while the second was off another free-position shot 31 seconds later. She capped the run with 15:19 left after taking a pass from Condon. The goal - the 175th of Brigandi's career - tied her with Amanda Keegan '07 for the most goals in the program's history.
Sophomore attacker Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) tallied consecutive goals to complete the opening scoring outburst. She finished off a feed from freshman attacker Catie McKay (Penfield, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) with 12:08 for Le Moyne's eighth goal, while scoring with 8:55 remaining off a pass from Bauer.
Whitney McKay got the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard with 4:54 remaining in the half off a pass from Courtney Szawlowski.
Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Fabian (Clay, N.Y./C.W. Baker) pushed Le Moyne's lead back to nine just 31 seconds later off a pass from Bauer. Conese completed the scoring in the half with her 30th goal of the season with 1:53 remaining.
Bauer had a hand in the first three goals of the second half as the Dolphins extended their lead to 14-1. She registered her 15th assist of the season with 28:09 remaining in the game as Fabian recorded her 16th goal of the season. Bauer followed 53 seconds later by finishing off a pass from Condon. She found the back of the net for the 43rd time with 24:47 remaining on a free-position shot.
Szawlowski tallied American International's second goal on a free-position shot with 21:41 left in the contest.
