Marist Drops Tough Overtime Game to St. Joseph's

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. St. Joseph's Ryan McGee scored his sixth goal of the game with one second remaining in overtime as Marist dropped a tough non-conference game 10-9 Tuesday night at Tenney Stadium.

Connor Rice (Penfield, N.Y.) and Jack Doherty (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each had four point nights with two goals and two assists each. Evan Guarini (Long Valley, N.J.) also scored twice and Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.), Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) and Ethan Fox (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each found the back of the net. Craig Goodermote (Holtsville, N.Y.) made 10 saves in goal and Matt Dugan (Cortland, N.Y.) scooped up a team-high eight ground balls while taking all 23 face-offs and winning 14 of them.

Rice got the scoring started for the Red Foxes (6-6, 3-2 MAAC) just 90 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal.

After a St. Joseph's (5-9, 0-5 CAA) score, Guarini and Joka scored back-to-back goals, both coming on assists from Doherty, to give Marist a two-goal advantage. The Hawks however responded with three consecutive goals spanning into the second quarter to take a 4-3 lead with 12:03 left.

Guarini knotted the score back up before Doherty scored two straight goals to give the Red Foxes a 6-4 lead at halftime. Rice assisted on Guarini's score and Doherty's first. He then scored the fourth straight Marist goal early into the third quarter to expand the lead to 7-4.

St. Joseph's again went on a three-goal streak to tie the score again at seven. The teams traded scores the rest of the way, including the first goal of the season for Fox, a defenseman. The Hawks sent the game into overtime with a score with 29 seconds remaining.

The Red Foxes conclude the regular season on Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. home game versus Canisius as they try to clinch a spot in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament. The team will also celebrate their seniors with the annual Senior Day ceremony prior to the game.
