Castleton Wraps Up Regular Season with Win at Lyndon

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - Castleton scored on five of its first six shots in its regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon, en route to a 12-2 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse victory over Lyndon St.

The Spartans got a career day from freshman Evan Tucker (Rising Sun, Md.) to lead the attack. Coming into the game Tucker had seven points in eight games, but he matched that on Wednesday with three goals and four assists. Overall eight different players found the net for Castleton as the team improves to 9-7 overall and 7-1 in the NAC. Lyndon drops to 3-6 and 3-5 in conference action.

The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play when Tucker scored off a pass from A.J. Groot (Canandaigua, N.Y.) from behind the net. Less than seven minutes later the duo hooked up again to push the Castleton advantage to 2-0.

A goal by Paul Saulsbury (Damascus, Md.) with 4:31 left to play in the opening quarter and a man-up tally by Nohea King (St. Albans, Vt.) 24 seconds later extended the Spartan lead to four and sent the Hornets reeling.

Colin Murray's (Oshawa, Ont.) goal at 3:28 closed out the first quarter, giving the Spartans a comfortable five-goal advantage. Jake Krantz's (Franklin Lakes N.J.) goal at the 10-inute mark of the second quarter was the lone goal of the period and gave Castleton a 6-0 at intermission.

In the third quarter, Krantz, Kenneth Bourneuf (Waterbury, Vt.) and Cam Ormiston (Wakefield, R.I) pushed the Spartan lead to 9-0 before goals by Tucker, Groot and Ormiston sealed the win.

Dan Randall scored Lyndon's first goal of the game with 2:36 left to play and teammate Ryan Brown netted and unassisted tally in the final minute of play to end the scoring in the contest.

Castleton's Eric Horsfield (Tolland, Conn.) stopped eight shots to get the victory and Matt Reynolds turned aside 10 shots in the loss.

The Spartans return to action on Friday in NAC Quarterfinal action against an opponent yet to be determined.
