Lady Rams Fall to Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Philadelphia University was defeated by host Holy Family, 16-11, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Wednesday afternoon on Tiger Field.

Despite the loss, the Lady Rams (7-9, 6-5 CACC) clinched a spot in the CACC Tournament after Wilmington (Del.) was knocked off by Chestnut Hill. Philadelphia ends the regular season with a road contest against Dominican (N.Y.) Sunday, April 29 at noon.

Midfielder Caribeth Shappell and attack Emily Ray paced the Philadelphia offense with three goals each. Attack Taylor Peltzer found the back of the net twice.

Holy Family (12-4, 11-1 CACC) got a seven-point game (three goals, four assists) from Stephanie McNesby. Marissa Lawson netted four goals, while Gina Mansi and Brianna Lancetta recorded hat-tricks.

Melissa Jenkins made 14 saves in the Tigers' net, while Ellen Wright turned aside 12 shots. Holy Family owned a 33-28 shot advantage.

The teams went back-and-forth for most of the first half. Philadelphia held a 6-5 lead until Holy Family scored four times in the final 6:54 of half to grab a 9-6 halftime lead.

In the second half, Peltzer and attack Nicole Lijana scored back-to-back goals to pull Philadelphia within 13-10 at the 9:57 mark. Holy Family widen the margin to 16-10 with three consecutive goals. Ray ended the scoring with 2:26 left.
