Golden Bears Fall to No. 8 West Chester in Finale

KUTZTOWN, Pa. Kutztown University dropped its last game of the regular season in a 17-3 final against No. 10 West Chester.

The Golden Rams opened the game with a six goal run before KU scored three of the half's last five goals to cut it to 8-3 at the break. Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) took an assist from Jillian Spencer (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) with 16:27 to play in the half for the Golden Bears first goal to cut it to 6-1. After West Chester stretched the lead to 8-1, goals by Buffolino and Lauren Schlitt (Baldwin, N.Y./Oceanside) pulled Kutztown back to within five.

Alexis Williams (Woolwich Township, N.J./Kingsway) made 18 saves in the game, matching the season-high for a Kutztown goalkeeper this season. She also led the team with six ground balls.

Leeann Pica (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) had four ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Schlitt scored onced and forced three turnovers. Spencer finished her day with two assists.

Tori Dugan led five West Chester players with multiple goals with four scores. She also had six ground balls and nine draw controls in the contest. Jamie Dolan had four caused turnovers.

Jess Henderson stopped six shots in the opening 51 minutes before Kelsey Sward closed things out, making one save.

The game was the final career contest for KU's three seniors, Pica, Emily Solt (Bowmanstown, Pa./Concord (Del.)) and Megan Schwar (Alpa, N.J./Phillipsburg). Pica finishes her career with 83 goals and 25 assists for 108 points. She finishes her career fifth at KU in goals, sixth in points and tied forth fifth in assists. Solt scored 35 career goals and assisted on eight others, ranking eighth in career goals. Schwarr had 31 goals and 13 assists in her career to rank tenth in the KU record book.
