Hornets Complete Season with Loss to Immaculata

WINCHESTER, Va. Shenandoah University saw its 2012 season come to an end with a 10-8 CSAC loss to Immaculata University Thursday afternoon. Immaculata (3-12, 3-4 CSAC) broke open a tie game with the first three goals of the fourth quarter against SU (2-14, 1-6).

The Hornets had taken their last lead of the contest midway through the third thanks to a Courtney Ledden unassisted tally. Ledden's goal, one of two he had on the afternoon, capped a 4-1 SU run that sandwiched the halftime intermission.

Immac had led 3-1 after a Jordon Smith goal 66 seconds into the second quarter before Shenandoah scored three straight in a span of 4:18 to push ahead 4-3 following a Sean Mack goal at 7:05.

The two teams then traded a goal apiece in the third before the Mighty Macs made their run to start the fourth.

Mac Hedrick goals had a pair of goals, the first one assisted by Ledden, to trail just 9-8 with 5:30 remaining. SU had five shots in the next five minutes, but could not get the equalizing tally. Immaculata scored its final goal on EMO with one second remaining.

The Hornets outshot Immac 39-32 and had a 34-33 advantage in groundballs. The Mighty Macs won 10 of 19 draws at the faceoff 'x'.

Tyler Quinn had 14 saves for the hosts.

Shenandoah opens its 2013 season in mid-February.
