Navy Doubles Up American University in Patriot Semifinals
Generi controlled a game-high five draws and now has a single-season school record of 104. Generi's draw control total is the sixth-best single-season effort in NCAA history.
Notes: Senior captain Kierstin King, a 2012 All-Patriot League First-Team defender, broke the school record for career starts (69) ... American University dropped its Patriot League semifinal match-up to Navy, 14-7, on Friday night. Alex Lugovina and Lauren Schoenberger led the Eagles with two goals apiece in the game.
Navy (16-2, 6-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Samantha Marshall found the back of the net off a free position shot at 23:30. The Eagles cut it to three but Navy tallied back-to-back goals for the 8-3 lead with 5:28 left in the first half.
Kimberly Collins and Lugovina added consecutive scores for American (7-10, 3-3) to put the score at 8-5 with 3:07 remaining. Navy scored two straight goals with less than a minute to play for the 10-5 lead at the end of the first half.
Navy opened the half with a 3-0 run to take a 13-5 lead. Emily Burton and Schoenberger cut the lead to 13-7 on back-to-back goals with 16:26 left to play. The Midshipmen scored the last goal of the game with 13:22 remaining, holding off American's attempts in the closing minutes, for the 14-7 final mark.
Marshall collected a team-best five ground balls, with the Eagles holding the 9-7 advantage in the game for ground balls collected. Emily Maher and Emily Stankiewicz each tallied a team-high three draw controls. Mia Rosen recorded six saves for American.
Aimee Gennaro led Navy with four goals. The Midshipmen held a 12-10 advantage in draw controls on the day.
American's season comes to a close with an overall mark of 7-10.
