Mercy Drops ECC Tilt to No. 3 Dowling

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2012) - On Saturday afternoon, Mercy College fell to No. 3 Dowling in East Coast Conference action, 14-2, on Mavericks Field in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. With the win, the Golden Lions improved to 11-1 overall and 9-1 in the league. Following the loss, the Mavericks slipped to 6-6 on the season and 4-5 in the ECC.

Dowling had control of this game from the get-go. The Golden Lions led at halftime, 7-0. Following the intermission, the guests continued to find the back of the netting. Mercy was able to break the shutout in the fourth quarter when junior midfielder C.J. Fleming (Middletown, N.Y.) scored with 7:56 remaining. The Mavericks would end up notching their second and final marker of the contest four minutes later when sophomore midfielder Zack Zangle (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored. Junior attacker Mike Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) had the assist.

For the Mavericks, junior midfielder and faceoff man Blaze Yeager (Riverhead, N.Y.) had nine ground balls. In goal, junior T.J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was strapped with the loss as he stopped 12 shots.

For the Golden Lions, senior attack Vito DeMola (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals, while three other players had two goals each. In the cage, senior Ryan Dougherty (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made 10 saves.

Head Coach Steve Manitta and the Mavericks close out their 2012 campaign with an ECC battle against No. 7 New York Institute of Technology on Saturday, May 5. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. .
