American International Squeaks by Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. (April 4, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce women's lacrosse team suffered a tight 10-9 loss to American International College in Northeast-10 action this evening at Sodexho Field. The Yellow Jackets used a consistent attack, scoring five goals in both halves to pick up their first victory of the season.

American International was led by junior Lindsay Wolf (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) and sophomore Caitlin Mooney (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) who registered four points apiece, each contributing three goals and one assist. Sophomore Shannon Burke (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) chipped in with three points, scoring two goals and adding a helper.

Franklin Pierce was led by freshman Kayleigh Jaksina (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex) who notched four points on a game-high four goals. Freshman Carla Savini (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) was also solid for the Ravens, posting three goals. Junior Nicole McKinnon (Northfield, N.H./Winnisquam) added three points in the match, scoring her first goal of the season and adding two assists.

American International jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but Franklin Pierce rallied back with two goals by Savini and Jaksina to knot the game at 3-3 midway through the first period. American International added two more goals within the last ten minutes of the first period to take a 5-3 advantage heading into the second frame.

In the second period, Franklin Pierce pulled within one goal after Jaksina notched her third goal of the game with 23:28 remaining in the match, but Wolfe and Burke posted back to back goals for the Yellow Jackets to increase the lead to 8-5 midway through the period. Franklin Pierce countered with goals from McKinnon, sophomore Celine Stamets (Sausalito, Calif./Mavin Catholic), and Jaksina to pull within a goal again, but that would be as close as the Ravens would get in the match.

Franklin Pierce (0-5, 0-2 NE-10) will be in action again on Thursday as it hosts Merrimack College for a match starting at 6 p.m. American International College (1-2, 1-2 NE-10) will travel to Southern New Hampshire University on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
