No. 4 Bullets Shoot by Swarthmore to CC Title Game

GETTYSBURG, Pa. Senior Hannah Church (Potomac, Md./Mount de Sales) and junior Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) contributed to 11 goals as fourth-ranked Gettysburg advanced to the Centennial Conference championship game for the 12th consecutive season with an 18-6 win over Swarthmore Saturday at Clark Field.

Gettysburg (16-1) will face Washington College (10-5) in Sunday's title game at 1:00 p.m. The Bullets will be seeking the program's first conference title since 2006, while the Shorewomen are on the quest for their first championship.

Robinson tossed in five goals and dished out one assist to lead the hosts. Church added three goals and two assists, while sophomores Katie Blumenthal (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) and Loren Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each tallied a pair of goals.

Swarthmore (12-5) stayed with the defending national champs early as Annalise Penikis pulled the visitors to 3-2 at 19:03. Gettysburg answered with a four-goal run capped by back-to-back-to-back free-position tallies by Church, Robinson, and freshman Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) to lift the advantage to 7-2 with 7:07 remaining in the opening period.

The Garnet sliced the lead to 7-4 on back-to-back tallies by Marie Mutryn and Corinne Sommi, but the Bullets fired right back with each of the next six scores to jump ahead 13-4 with 19:27 to play. Robinson and Blumenthal each scored twice during the run.

After Swarthmore pulled to 13-6 on another pair of goals, the hosts put the game to rest with the final five goals, including a man-up goal by freshman Taylor Lawlor (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) at 2:08.

Gettysburg held the edge statistically in shots (28-17), ground balls (17-11), and draw controls (15-11).

Defensively, junior Alex Casey (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) and sophomore Kelly Spieker (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) each posted three caused turnovers. Junior Kat Nestor (Darien, Conn./Darien) posted five ground balls and one caused turnover, while senior Lexi Kelly (Ridley Park, Pa./Agnes Irwin School) logged two of each. Freshman Julia Shackleton (Warwick, R.I./Tabor Academy (Mass.)) picked up five draw controls and scored a goal.

Senior goalie Maddie Coleman (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) made five of her game-high seven saves in the second half.

Penikis and Mutryn each finished with two goals and one assist for Swarthmore. Penikis added two caused turnovers and three draw controls.
