Washington & Jefferson Falls to Drew in Season Finale

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Sean McGowan scored four goals and won 16 faceoffs to help Drew knock off Washington & Jefferson 17-8 in Landmark Conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents had their season come to an end with a 5-11 record (1-5 Landmark). Drew improved to 12-3 overall (5-1 Landmark). The Rangers have earned one of the four spots in the Landmark Conference Tournament.

Drew scored the first five goals of the match; however, W&J roared back with five goals during the final nine minutes of the second quarter to narrow the deficit to 7-5 at halftime. Senior attacker Mark Ringeling (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and junior attacker Joseph Eck (Boise, Idaho, Bishop Kelly) both scored two goals during the rally.

Eck set up senior attacker Andrew Wallick (Canton, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) for a goal at the 8:57 mark of the third quarter to bring the Presidents to within 8-6, but Drew put the game away with eight consecutive goals over the next 10 minutes.

Ten different Rangers scored goals, including three by Eric Tripp. Drew outshot W&J 45-26 and claimed a 16-10 edge in faceoffs. Both teams scored three times on extra-man chances.

Eck led the Presidents with three goals and one assist, while Wallick also netted three goals in his final collegiate match. The Presidents' all-time leading scorer finished his standout career with 99 goals and 78 assists for 177 career points.

Ringeling added two goals to finish with 84 for his career. Junior midfielder Dylan Haas (Damascus, Md./Damascus) dished out two assists.

Senior goalie Matt Landfried (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) started and took the loss for W&J after allowing four goals and making three saves. Junior goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School) saw a majority of action in the net (42 minutes and 18 seconds) and produced 12 saves.
