Kingsley Nets Four as #13 Devils Turn Back #18 Bullets
Freshman Robby Maddux (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) scored two goals for Gettysburg while senior Caldwell Rohrbach (Seattle, Wash./Seattle) posted one goal and two assists. Freshman Bijan Firouzan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and sophomore Martin Manilla (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) notched one goal and one assist apiece. Sophomore Jon Maddalone (Newtown, Pa./Choate Rosemary Hall [Conn.]) made 11 saves while senior defenseman Billy Grayson (Washington, D.C./St. Alban School) posted five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Bobby Kingsley led Dickinson with four goals while Chip Murray won 15 of 22 face-offs. Greg Hanley stopped nine shots for the Red Devils.
Manilla scored the game's opening goal with 9:09 left in the first quarter but Dickinson came back with three unanswered tallies to take the lead for good. Senior Matt McMurray (Orangeville, Ont./Hill Academy) cut it to 3-2 with 1:23 left in the opening quarter, but Brian Cannon answered with 51 ticks showing to make it 4-2 at the end of the period.
Cannon's tally was the start of a 7-1 Red Devil run that extended into the second half. Dickinson scored three times in a 2:42 flurry to open up a 7-2 lead before junior Evan Thomas (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) stopped the bleeding at the 4:57 mark. But Sam Greenberg converted an extra-man opportunity with 3:40 showing to give Dickinson its five-goal lead at the break.
Kingsley scored six seconds apart early in the second half to make it 10-3 with 9:35 on the clock. Rohrbach and Maddux scored one goal apiece over the final 8:29 of the quarter as the Bullets pulled to within 11-5 heading into the final stanza.
Maddux made it 11-6 with he scored with 9:15 left, but that would turn out to be Gettysburg's final goal until the game's final minute, when Firouzan struck with 20 seconds remaining.
Dickinson outshot the Bullets just 36-32 after Gettysburg held a 24-9 advantage in the second half. The two sides split the 10 second-half face-offs.
Starting times for Friday's games will be announced on Monday. Washington will take on McDaniel College in the other semifinal.
