Belmont Abbey Concludes Season with Loss to Seton Hill

Belmont Abbey closed out the 2012 season with a 13-3 loss to the visiting Seton Hill Griffins this afternoon at Alumni Field. Seton Hill improves to 10-4, while the Abbey concludes the program's seventh season with a record of 5-11.

Seton Hill scored the first seven goals of the game, six in the first period as it seized control early. Dan Morrissey stopped the string with a second period goal off of a Scotty Steele assist, but Seton Hill closed the half with two unanswered strikes to carry a 9-1 lead into halftime.

Belmont Abbey scored the first two goals of the third period as Walker Kirkikis netted an unassisted tally at the 9:01 mark, followed by a Tanner Scharr strike off of a feed from Joey McGinley two and a half minutes later. Seton Hill scored the final four goals of the game to provide the winning margin.

The Crusaders outshot Seton Hill 32-30 but the Griffins held a 26-24 edge in ground balls.

Dylan Lefebrve and Jimmy Cogley both led the Griffins with three goals each. Matt Delmonico and Dylan Gelven both scored twice. James Delaney, Marc Piche and James Fredal all had one each.

Steele and Connor Doyle both led the Crusaders with two caused turnovers apiece. Goalkeeper Merrick Reiland, one of five seniors honored before the game, led the Crusaders with six ground balls. He also made seven saves as he played the final 30 minutes.
