Hawks Fall to Red Dragons in Season Finale

ONEONTA, NY Host Hartwick trailed Oneonta State by just a 5-4 margin with under 18 minutes left in the first half, but the visiting Red Dragons controlled the next 40 minutes, scoring the next 15 goals in a 22-6 victory. The Hawks close out the season with a 5-11 mark. Oneonta State's season comes to a close at 12-4 overall.

Senior Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon HS) led the Hawks in her final game in a Hartwick uniform with three goals. Fellow senior Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY/Cortland HS) scored once as did junior Erin Doyle (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran HS) and sophomore Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick HS).

'Wick drew first blood just 21 seconds into the game as Kennedy won the opening draw and Walsh beat her defender and put her shot past SUCO keeper Annelise Muscietta for a 1-0 lead. The Red Dragons would get the next three goals in a 2:01 span to jump out in front 3-1.

Kennedy got the Hawks to within one with a goal at 25:09. 'Wick had three chances to tie it, including a Walsh free-position shot that rang off the far post.

Kiera McNally tallied one of her four goals on the day for Oneonta State with under 21 minutes to go and Rebecca Monteith added one of her four goals at 19:28 for a 5-2 Red Dragon edge.

Doyle set up Kennedy for her second of the game after the Hawks won the ensuing draw. Doyle then found the net off a Jackie Moynihan (West Islip, NY/West Islip HS) pass and the Hawks quickly trimmed the Oneonta lead to one, 5-4.

The Hawks grabbed the draw following their fourth goal but they turned it over before having a chance at evening the score. Jillian Donodeo tallied for Oneonta with 17:20 left to trigger a 7-0 Red Dragon run to close the half up 12-4.

Oneonta scored four times in the first five minutes of the second half and totaled eight scores before Sisco answered for Hartwick with 3:50 remaining. After two more goals from the visitors, Kennedy capped her career with a goal from Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro HS) with 25 seconds left. It marked her 75th goal for Hartwick and 92nd point.

O-State held a 38-22 edge in shots for the game. The Red Dragons also had a 22-16 advantage in ground balls and a 19-11 edge in draws.

Freshman goalkeeper Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs HS) made a career-high 13 saves in the contest. Muscietta stopped six in 40 minutes. Laura Grose made two saves in the final 20 minutes.

Luce also had a team-high four ground balls for Hartwick. Doyle and senior Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles HS) each secured three. LaVaute also had a team-high three draws. Freshman Morgan Hall (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern HS) caused two Oneonta turnovers.

The senior trio of LaVaute, Kennedy, and Walsh will be tough to replace for the Hawks as they have accounted for over 300 points in their four-year careers.

LaVaute scored 93 goals and dished out 32 assists for 125 points. She hit the 100-mark in ground balls (113), draws (112), and she caused 72 turnovers.

Kennedy closes her career with 75 tallies and 17 assists. She added 92 ground balls, 76 draws, and 24 caused turnovers.

Walsh scored 62 goals, delivered 24 assists, and accumulated for 86 points. She added 29 ground balls, 22 draw controls, and 15 caused turnovers.
