Maryland's Jake Bernhardt to Redshirt the 2012 Season
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior midfielder Jake Bernhardt will not compete in any remaining games for Maryland and will redshirt the season, Terrapin head coach John Tillman announced Wednesday.
The move preserves a year of eligibility for Bernhardt, who will return to the Terps as a fifth-year senior next year.
Bernhardt suffered a shoulder injury in Maryland's scrimmage at Loyola on Feb. 4 and underwent surgery to repair the damage. The Longwood, Fla., native returned to practice in a limited capacity in late April.
Bernhardt started all 18 games on the first midfield line for the Terps in 2011, helping the team win the ACC tournament championship and earning a berth into the NCAA championship game. He finished the season eighth on the team with 18 points and sixth in goals with 15.
