Norwich Runs Past In-State Rival Lyndon State

LYNDON, VT. The sophomore midfielder combination of Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) and Zach MacMillan (Brunswick, Maine) led Norwich University a little bit of history May 2. The duo each posted three goals to help rally the Cadets past in-state rival Lyndon State 16-6. The victory was the program's 11th of the season, which set a new single-season wins mark.

LSC (3-8) jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than 38 seconds in. Freshman attacker Victor Bill (Nazareth, Penn.) took a feed from sophomore midfielder Andrew Dustin (Canterbury, N.H.) to break up the Cadets' scoreless string with 12:37 to go in the first period and sparked a four-goal rally. The host Hornets managed to battle back within one (5-4) before a five-goal roll by the Maroon and Gold put the game out of reach.

MacMillan and Mendoza's scoring efforts were among a set of 10 individuals to find the Lyndon State net. Sophomore midfielder Nick Godau (Bristol, Conn.) followed close behind with two goals and two assists, Dustin wound up with a goal and two assists, and sophomore midfielder Ian Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) added two goals and an assist.

Other highlights for Coach Neal Anderson's squad came from freshman goalkeeper Ryan Fecteau (Danvers, Mass.) who compiled six saves in net en route to his first collegiate win and Thomas with nine ground ball pick-ups. Bill followed Thomas with six recovered ground balls.

GAME NOTES: Mendoza's three-goal game also earned him a piece of individual historical reference. He moved over the 50-goal mark for his career. ... The sophomore midfielder also recorded his 13th straight game with at least one score. He's had multiple-goal efforts 10 times in the span.
