Mercy Closes Season with Loss at No. 7 NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (May 5, 2012) - Mercy closed out its 2012 season with a 13-6 loss to East Coast Conference-foe No. 7 New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, N.Y. on Saturday.

Juniors Mike Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) and John Fitzpatrick (Yorktown, N.Y.) each scored twice for the Mavericks as they slipped to 6-7 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The Bears improved to 13-3 on the year and 8-2 in the ECC.

After one period, the two teams were tied at 4-4 as Fitzpatrick scored twice, while senior Sal Spinelli (East Islip, N.Y.) and Marzocca netted a goal apiece.

Marzocca scored his second marker of the contest in the second quarter. The two clubs went into halftime with the Bears leading, 6-5.

NYIT would go on to score seven of the game's eight second-half goals to secure the 13-6 victory. The lone Mavericks tally was recorded by junior Erik Grady (Medford, N.Y.).

In goal for Mercy, junior netminder T.J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made seven saves, while junior Blaze Yeager (Riverhead, N.Y.) was 10 for 20 on faceoffs.
