Duke

Duke advanced to its eighth NCAA semifinal after a convincing 17-6 win over Colgate in the quarterfinals. The Blue Devils meet Maryland for the third time this season after splitting the two previous meetings. The Terrapins took the regular season contest, 10-7, while Duke edged the Terps in the ACC Tournament, 6-5. This is the second straight season Duke and Maryland have played in the NCAA semifinals.

NCAA Tournament Notes

• Duke advanced to its eighth NCAA lacrosse championship weekend and its sixth consecutive – (1997, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012)

• Duke currently ranks tied for eighth in Division I NCAA lacrosse history with eight showings in the NCAA semifinals.

• Duke is 24-14 all-time in its 16 NCAA tournament appearances and 3-4 in NCAA semifinals.

• Duke earned the third seed for the second time in program history after garnering that distinction in 2009 ... The Blue Devils also earned a top-eight seed in 1994 (8), 1995 (5), 1997 (5), 1998 (7), 1999 (4), 2000 (7), 2002 (7) and 2005 (2), 2007 (1), 2008 (1), 2010 (5), 2011 (5).

• Duke posted a 5-4 record against this year's NCAA tournament 16-team field ... The Blue Devils faced seven of the 16 teams selected and four of the top eight seeds.

• Duke has won 18 of its past 23 NCAA playoff games, with three of the losses coming against Johns Hopkins in the 2005 and 2007 title games and the 2008 semifinals.

• Overall, the Blue Devils are 19-6 in NCAA action when reaching double figures in the scoring column and 1-8 when held to nine or fewer goals.

• Duke is one of eight schools with more tournament wins than post-season appearances (Cornell, Duke, Johns Hopkins, Maryland, North Carolina, Princeton, Syracuse, and Virginia)

Duke Advances to 6th Consecutive NCAA Semifinal

Duke advanced to championship weekend for the sixth conseuctive season ... Only four other schools have qualified for the semifinals at least six straight seasons since the NCAA Division I championship began in 1971 ... Duke is one of just three schools to get to championship weekend at least six consecutive seasons since 1990.

Danowski Heads to 6th Straight NCAA Semifinal

With a 17-6 victory over Colgate, Duke head coach John Danowski earned a spot in the NCAA semifinals for the sixth straight season ... He is one of two head coaches - the other being Syracuse's John Desko - to guide a team to championship weekend in each of his first six seasons at the helm of a program ... Desko did the same from 1999-04 ... Danowski's six straight and Maryland head coach John Tillman's two in a row are the lone active streaks.

Duke-Maryland Series History

Duke and Maryland are meeting for the 77th time since the first game in 1940 ... The Terrapins hold a convincing 57-19 lead in the series and are 6-4 against the Blue Devils in the past 10 contests ... The two teams have met four times in the NCAA Tournament, including in the NCAA semifinals in 2011, with both teams coming away with two wins ... Duke and Maryland split the two previous contests this season with Duke winning in the ACC Tournament and Maryland coming away with the regular season victory ... The Terrapins ended the Blue Devils' season last year in the NCAA semifinals.

A House Divided, as Haus Brothers Face Off

Freshmen midfielder Will Haus will face older brother John for the third time this season ... John is a junior midfielder at Maryland ... Their father, John, was a two-time All-American at North Carolina and currently serves as the head coach at Lebanon Valley College.
