Photos: Wildcats Defeat Orange to Win the Division I Crown

Stony Brook, N.Y. -- Northwestern claimed its seventh national championship in the last eight years, using a very deliberate, ball-control offense to get by No. 4 Syracuse, 8-6, on Sunday night. Taylor Thornton scored to break a 6-6 tie with 9:55 remaining, and the Wildcats hung on for the victory. Shannon Smith and Erin Fitzgerald led Northwestern with two goals each.
