Marist Adds Nine Members to the Lacrosse Class of 2016

Derek Sganga 5-9/165 LSM/Defense Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor Jr./Sr. High School/Avon Old Farms School
Derek Sganga was a four year varsity starter for Eastport South Manor Jr./Sr. High School where, for his career, he recorded 14 goals, 13 assists, 246 ground balls and 106 takeaways. He is the all-time school leader in goals, assists, and takeaways for defensemen. After helping his team to reach the playoffs for the first time in 2010, and the school's first playoff victory in that same year, Sganga was named a Team Captain for the 2011 season. He has been named All-Division and All-County for both the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He was named to the academic honor roll from 2007-10 and was a Scholar Athletics from 2008-10. Sganga played the 2012 season at Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut where he scored seven goals and recorded five assistes while collecting 107 ground balls and causing 39 turnovers. He was named the team's Defensive MVP and earned All-New England honors. His brother Ron played lacrosse at Manhattanville College.

Bruce Bainbridge 5-8/170 LSM/Defense Montclair, N.J./Montclair
Bainbridge recorded two assists and had a team-leading 80 groundballs for Montclair High School, where he was a teammate with fellow classmate Ryan Cook. An Under Armour All-American Underclassman in 2011, Bainbridge was also an All-Essex County First Team selection, an All-N.J. Junior Team Third Team selection, and received an All-State Group IV honorable mention. In addition to lacrosse, Bainbridge also played ice hockey player for Montclair. His father Bob played football for Siena and was named an All-American in 1973.

Nick Papayanakos 5-7/145 Attack Manlius, N.Y. Christian Brothers Academy
Nick Papayanakos played attack at Christian Brothers Academy alongside fellow incoming freshman Shane Murphy. As a senior, Papayanakos scored 43 goals and chipped in 15 assists while being named to the All-CNY Team for a second time. He was also named an Under Armour Under Classman All-American following his junior campaign. For his career he recorded 103 goals and 75 assists. Papayanakos was also a member his school's ice hockey and soccer teams.

Tommy Celmer 6-0/172 Midfield Summit, N.J./Summitt
Celmar scored 18 goals and assisted on 20 others while picking up 72 ground balls in his senior season, helping his team to a New Jersey Group 1 State Championship and a semifinal finish in the NJSIAAA Tournament of Champions. A team captain in 2012, Celmar was an All-Group 1 First Team member For his career he registered 70 points on 34 goals and 36 assists and scooped 165 ground balls. He was a member of both the 2010 and 2011 New Jersey Group 2 State Championship teams which set a New Jersey record with a 68-game winning streak.

Marist finished their 2012 season at 6-8 overall and 3-3 in the MAAC, advancing to their third consecutive MAAC Tournament.
