Genovese Retires as Herons' Coach; Dougherty Named Interim

A 2004 second-team IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American, Dougherty produced 85 career goals and 26 career assists for 111 points. She helped William Smith to a 61-9 overall record (.871), including a 14-2 mark in the Liberty League. During her career, the Herons captured two Liberty League titles, three NCAA Tournament berths, including the 2003 appearance in the national semifinals, and the 2001 ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship.

Dougherty earned a bachelor's degree in media and society from William Smith in 2004 and graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a master's degree in organizational leadership in 2009.

The Herons finished the season with a 9-9 overall record and a 7-2 mark in Liberty League play. Seeded third, William Smith upset No. 2 RIT in the Liberty League Tournament semifinals, but fell to top-seeded Rensselaer in the championship game. The Herons will return 17 of 23 players from the 2012 squad. Additionally, Dougherty was instrumental in recruiting the 12 members of the incoming William Smith Class of 2016 that will bolster the roster.
