New Transylvania Program Welcomes 9 for Inaugural Season
Transylvania head coach Haley Marvine announced the first-ever recruiting class for the new prgram. The class features nine women from four states who will be joining the Pioneers for the inaugural season in 2013.
"I am so excited about this incoming class," said Marvine. "They are tremendously talented lacrosse players, students and leaders. I couldn't be happier with my first class. They are the perfect group of young women to help start this historic journey at Transylvania."
Iyabo Erinkitola is a midfielder from Woodstock High School in Woodstock, GA. At Woodstock she was a varsity letterman in lacrosse, cross country and track. In 2011 she was named "Hardest Worker" by her teammates and coaches. She will be studying biology at Transylvania this fall.
Aubrey Kate Bausum is an attacker from Chattahoochee High School in Johns Creek, GA. She is a three time letter winner in lacrosse. While at CHS Bausum helped the Cougars to 3 Area Championships and one State Final Four appearance. In 2011 she was named the Georgia National team, first team. In 2012 she was team captain, offensive MVP and named First Team All-State by the GHSA. This year Aubrey became one of the only Chattahoochee players ever to be named US Lacrosse All-American and US Lacrosse Academic All-American in the same year. She will be a pre-physical therapy major at Transylvania.
Lucy Meredith is a defender from the Mercy Academy in Louisville, KY. She is a two year letter winner in lacrosse and was an honor roll student at Mercy. She will be studying elementary education at Transylvania.
Rachel Harrison is a midfielder from Pope John Paul II in Henderson, TN. She is a four year letter winner in both lacrosse and soccer at JPII. She was named the "Unsung hero" by her team as a sophomore and defensive MVP as a Junior. Harrison was named to the All-Region team in 2010, 2011 and 2012. She is a two time US Lacrosse Academic All-American and was named to the Tennessee All-State Team her Senior year. Also in 2012 Harrison was named a US Lacrosse High School All-American. She will be studying physical therapy at Transylvania.
Sky Spraker is an attacker from Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, TN. Spraker was a 4 year letter winning in both soccer and lacrosse. Spraker ranked in the top 10 GPA's at GPS all four years. She was team MVP in 2009, lead her team in points every year of high school and was named team captain.
Cali Klink is a defender from Kentucky Country Day School in Louisville, KY. Cali is a four year member of the Bearcat lacrosse team as well as a starter for the team's defense. In her senior year, Klink helped lead KCD to winning the Kentucky state championship.
Lydia Shaughnessy is a goalie from Male Traditional High School in Louisville, KY. At Male Shaughnessy had perfect attendance and made the honor roll every year. She was a three year letter winner in lacrosse. In 2011 and 2012 she received the Coaches Award. In 2012 she was named to the Brave heart All Tournament team, Kentucky All-Star team, and the Male High School Girl's Lacrosse Most Valuable Player. She will be double majoring in communications and psychology at Transylvania.
Kayla Thurlow is an attacker from Freeport High School in Freeport, Maine. At Freeport, she lettered four years in field hockey, three years in lacrosse, one year in softball and one year in indoor track. In field hockey Thurlow has been named 1st team All-State, All Region and her team's MVP. In Lacrosse she was chosen as member of Team Maine, the 2011 Most Improved player and a US Lacrosse Academic All-American. She will be a double major in Spanish and accounting at Transylvania.
Claire Emison is a goalie from the Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, KY. Emison was a three year letter winner for Sacred Heart, where her team won the State Championship in 2011. She was named her team's Most Valuable player in 2009 and 2012. Her senior year Claire was named to the Kentucky lacrosse All-Star team. She will be studying communications at Transylvania.
