Bayhawks Fly by Rattlers; Outlaws Crush Hounds; Other Recaps

The Bayhawks return home on Saturday, August 4th to battle their long time rivals the Long Island Lizards.

Denver 21, Charlotte 7

The Charlotte Hounds suffered their worst loss of the season Saturday night, falling 21-7 to the Denver Outlaws in front of a crowd of 5,164 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver. Outlaws attackman Mark Matthews was named Bud Light Player of the Game for his seven point performance. Matthews had four goals -- three in the first quarter -- and three assists.

The Outlaws got off to an early 4-0 lead behind two goals each from Matthews and Brendan Mundorf. The Hounds got on the board with 7:14 remaining in the first, as a shot from Billy Bitter bounced just past goalie Jesse Schwartzman and the goal line to make it 4-1. However, the Outlaws would go on a nine-goal run that stretched into the second quarter and included two more goals from Matthews as well as two from Chris Bocklet for a 13-1 advantage. The Hounds finally put an end to the run when Jeremy Boltus ripped a 2-pointer with 2:05 left in the half to bring the score to 13-3 heading into halftime.

After 10 minutes of scoreless play to start the third quarter, Jovan Miller tallied the Hounds second straight goal, to reduce the Outlaws lead to 13-4. However, Mundorf quickly responded with his third goal of the game to get the Outlaws back the 10 goal lead. Drew Snider and Terry Kimener would also score for the Outlaws to take a 16-4 lead with 1:06 left in the quarter. Kevin Kaminski added a goal for the Hounds with 18 seconds to go to finish the third down 16-5.

The Outlaws started the fourth quarter with a four goal run, including a second goal from Jeremy Sieverts and third from Bocklet, for the 20-5 advantage with 11:46 left to go in the game. The Hounds scored two of the game's final three goals, one from Stephen Berger and a second from Kaminski to make the final score 21-7 Outlaws.

The Hounds (3-7) road trip will continue, as they next face the Rochester Rattlers (5-5) at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY on Friday, July 20.

Long Island 14, Boston 11

July 14, 2012 - Hempstead, NY - The Boston Cannons dropped to 6-4 tonight after losing to the Long Island Lizards (6-4), 14-11, for the second time this season. Matt Poskay scored five goals to lead the Cannons, but Greg Gurenlian won 19 of 28 face-offs for the Lizards to earn Bud Light Player of the Game honors.

The Cannons scored three man-up goals and Poskay completed a hat trick in the first quarter to give the Cannons an early lead. Kevin Buchanan and rookie Chris Boland added a goal each and the Cannons ended the quarter ahead, 5-1.

The Lizards won the second quarter on goals from Stephen Peyser, Tommy Palasek and Brian Langtry. Mike Stone scored the only goal for the Cannons and Boston held onto a 6-4 lead entering halftime.

Long Island continued to dominate in the second half, outscoring the Cannons 10-5 in the third and fourth quarters. Poskay scored the last two goals of the game, both assisted by Buchanan, but it was not enough as the Lizards held on for the victory.

The Cannons and the Lizards are now tied for third in Major League Lacrosse behind the Chesapeake Bayhawks (8-2) and Denver Outlaws (7-3).

The Cannons return home for the first time since June 9th next Thursday, July 19th, at 7:00 pm to face the Denver Outlaws. The Cannons defeated the Outlaws, 17-10, on May 19th in Denver.
