AACC's Griffiths Honored as Hero's Lacrosse Man of the Year

Anne Arundel women's lacrosse coach Jim Griffiths was honored Aug. 4 at the Annapolis Touchdown Club awards ceremony as the Hero's Lacrosse "Man of the Year."

Griffiths has coached women's lacrosse since 2004 and compiled a 126-25 record with seven conference titles and just as many national appearances. His teams won two national championships and captured the runner-up trophy three times.

The teams have led the nation academically while winning the NCAAademic Team of the Year award for the last four seasons. Forty-three of his student-athletes have moved on to play lacrosse at four-year schools.

Griffiths also is an accomplished coach of the Pioneer women's soccer and cross country teams. In addition, he served for six years as president of NJCAA Lacrosse Coaches' Association and for nine years as Region 20 Lacrosse Coaches' Association president.

"Getting an award like this makes me realize that I have been very lucky to have good players who have been very committed and loyal, and that I was smart enough to surround myself with very good assistant coaches throughout the years," Griffiths said.
