IWLCA Recognizes Ten Merit Squads for the 2012 Season
The IWLCA has recognized 10 schools as earning Merit Squad status for the 2012 season, with schools honored in each division. Institutions were named Merit Squads by virtue of having one of the top three team GPAs for the season. In addition, all teams that posted team GPAs of 3.0 or higher were recognized earlier this year as Academic Squads.
In Division III, Hamilton College led all institutions with a 3.60 GPA. Vassar College (3.52), Wesleyan University (3.44) and Pacific University (3.44) also earned Merit Squad honors after each being previously honored as one of 71 schools that earned Academic Squad honors. This is Vassar's second consecutive year as a Merit Squad honoree. Earlier this year, these three institutions were recognized as 61 schools earned Academic Squad honors from the IWLCA.
Georgian Court University boasted the highest team GPA in Division II with a 3.40 mark. Bentley University (3.39) and Philadelphia University (3.36) were both honored as well. Earlier this year, 19 teams, including these three institutions, were recognized as Academic Squads.
The institution in Division I with the highest team GPA was American University, an honor the institution also earned in 2011. The Eagles forged a 3.66 team GPA. Brown earned the Merit Squad status for the second consecutive year with a team GPA of 3.51, just edging out Drexel's 3.50. These three schools were part of the 42 institutions that were named Academic Squads earlier this week.
