Big Second Half Helps Millersville Sink Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Amy Longenecker (West Chester, PA/Henderson) and Anna Marmer (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) each scored three goals to lead Millersville to a 14-11 victory at Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse action on Friday.

Kristen Crutchfield led the Red Raiders (2-4, 2-3 PSAC) with six of their 11 goals.

Trailing 9-6, the Marauders (4-5, 2-3 PSAC) netted eight straight goals to record their third straight PSAC victory.

After Kelly Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) and Ashley Mazzie (Barto, PA/Boyertown) finished solo runs 1 minute, 18 seconds apart to pull Millersville within 9-8 with 17:14 to play, Liz Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) converted a free-position shot to knot the game at 9 with 16:37 remaining.

Longenecker went back-to-back less than a minute apart to complete her third hat trick of the season, giving the Marauders an 11-9 advantage.

Marmer converted two straight 8-meter shots to stretch the lead to 13-9 and complete her third three-goal outing of the campaign.

Laura Chiodo (Dowingtown, PA/Downingtown) capped the eight-goal burst, finishing a Marmer assist with 3:08 to play, stretching the lead to five.

Crutchfield and Kelly Erisman each tallied in the final three minutes for Shippensburg to set the final margin.

Kristen Maze (Media, PA/Penncrest) opened the game, netting a Richmond helper a minute into the game.

Marmer doubled the lead 2:31 later before Crutchfield and Kim Hudicka tallied unassisted markers within 52 seconds to knot the game at 2-all.

After Nadine Owsiany (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) evened the score at 5 with 4:21 to play until halftime, Crutchfield had the final say of the half, scoring 37 seconds later to give the Red Raiders a 6-5 lead entering the break.

Mazzie once again drew Millersville even, 33 seconds out of the intermission before Brita Paul sandwiched two Crutchfield goals to give Shippensburg a 9-6 lead.

Patty Wesolek (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) made 16 saves between the pipes for the Marauders.

Millersville returns to action at home against West Chester on Monday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
