Twelve Freshmen Begin Their Ohio State Lacrosse Careers

COLUMBUS, Ohio As the Ohio State women's lacrosse team prepares for its Alumni Game on Friday night, 12 freshmen are just beginning their careers in the Scarlet & Gray. Head coach Alexis Venechanos, who enters her third year with the Buckeyes in 2012-2013, brought in a group of newcomers that covers all positions and represents seven states plus Ontario.

The Buckeyes opened their fall schedule last weekend with Notre Dame and Northwestern. Following their Alumni Game at 9:00 p.m. Friday, they will continue on with play days at Navy (Oct. 13) and Georgetown (Oct. 14) before hosting one of their own (Oct. 21).

A look at the 2012-13 freshman class:

Emi Breakey Attack Mechanicsburg, Pa. Cumberland Valley
Played field hockey and lacrosse at Cumberland Valley ... On the lacrosse field, holds the school record for career goals (337) ... Named a Mid-Penn First Team All-Star, Patriot News First Team All-Star and Team MVP in 2010-1012 ... Led team to Mid-Penn Championship as a junior senior, earning conference MVP honors in both seasons (2011 & 2012).

Cian Dabrowski Midfield Orangeville, Ontario Orangeville District
Four-year letterwinner in hockey and lacrosse ... Named MVP of the game during Team Canada U19 team's appearance at North America Challenge Cup in 2012 ... Won a bronze medal for U19 Team Canada in the 2011 U19 World Championship in Hannover, Germany ... Earned back-to-back OFSAA lacrosse gold medals in 2009 and 2010.

Olivia DiCarlantonio Defense Wellington, Fla. Wellington
Named US Lacrosse All-American in 2012, in addition to earning team MVP for lacrosse three times, Sun Sentinel Player of the Year twice and Palm Beach Post Player of the Year ... Received first team all-district, all-county and all-area accolades in all four four seasons ... Scored 120 goals, including 15 in one game, and had 41 assists as a senior ... Also lettered in soccer and volleyball.

Christine Easton Midfield Eden Prairie, Minn. Eden Prairie
Four-year letterwinner in soccer, basketball and lacrosse ... Three-time All-American by US Lacrosse ... Led Eden Prairie to the state title as a freshman in 2009, scoring the game-tying and winning goals, and to the state finals in each of her final three seasons ... Named the Minnesota Player of the Year as a senior in 2012 ... A two-year captain and three-time MVP, earned All-Minnesota and All-MSHSL honors in 2010-12 ... Paced her team in scoring as sophomore, junior and senior, finishing with career totals of 283 goals, 62 assists, 189 ground balls and 177 draws.

Katie Frederick Goalie Yorktown, N.Y. Yorktown
Two-time all-star from the Journal News and MSG, earning first-team honors as a senior ... Also named to the all-league and all-section squads in both junior and senior campaigns ... Led team to Section 8 championship in 2011, the final in 2010 and the semifinals as a senior ... Tallied 239 saves with 8.86 goals-against average as a senior in 2012 ... Also lettered two seasons in both field hockey and basketball.

Kelsey Gallagher Midfield Wilmette, Ill. Loyola Academy
Won four-consecutive Illinois state championships from in 2009-12 ... A two-time All-Illinois honoree, earned first-team recognition as a senior in 2012 ... Was a three-year starter at midfield ... Tallied 63 goals and 48 assists as a senior, ending career with 105 goals and 89 assists for 194 points.

Rainey Hodgson Attack West Islip, N.Y. West Islip
Captain and MVP as a senior ... Named all-county twice on the lacrosse field ... Posted 84 goals and 78 assists for her career ... A three-year letterwinner in basketball, earned all-league and all-conference selections each season, finishing as the MVP twice ... Also lettered in volleyball.
