Vermont MLax Takes Part in Local Fundraisers

BURLINGTON, Vt. University of Vermont recently held two events that helped raise over $3,000 for the Inspirational Families Program. The team will also be taking part in the Catamount Classic - Lacrosse for a Cure this weekend at Thayer Academy's off-campus turf fields in Braintree, Mass. Over the last four years the event has tripled in size and has donated nearly $130,000 to cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

On September 25 the team hosted a benefit concert at Nectar's in Burlington, where the team sold tickets on campus for the event and Nectar's donated the proceeds from the door totaling $1,090. The Catamounts also put on the first annual Lacrosse On The Links Golf Tournament on September 29 at the Williston Country Club, bringing in a total of $1,941, which included the funds raised for a silent auction that was also held.

The over $3,000 that was raised between the two events will be used for the Inspirational Families Program that the team is involved in. The program allows the team to give participating families overcoming and surviving cancer a VIP experience at the Catamount Classic this upcoming weekend. It will pay for the families' transportation to the fields, in some cases a hotel for their family and a day full of amazing memories.

This year 27 lacrosse teams will take to the fields throughout the weekend as part of the Catamount Classic to help fight the battle against cancer and raise awareness for cancer screening and prevention. The Vermont men's team will have three honorary members on the sidelines with them this weekend, as all of the cancer fighters are under the age of 20.
