Brecht Appoints Trio as Rutgers Lacrosse Captains for 2013

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 12, 2012) Rutgers head lacrosse coach Brian Brecht has named senior defenseman Edward Bartleson (Morristown, N.J.), junior defenseman Nicholas Contino (Branchburg, N.J.) and redshirt junior midfielder Anthony Terranova (Flemington, N.J.) team captains for the 2013 season, it was announced Friday. The newly appointed Scarlet Knight captains have amassed 69 career game appearances.

"My staff and I are very excited to announce our captains for the 2013 season," Brecht said. "All three have shown and demonstrated the qualities that we need as leaders this year as we continue to build upon the rich tradition of Rutgers Lacrosse and prepare for our 2013 spring season. Their experience both on and off the field over the past few years as Rutgers student-athletes makes them great ambassadors for our team. They will continue what many dedicated alumni provided for this program in the past."

Bartleson has notched 11 appearances as a Scarlet Knight, including six last season. In 2012, he provided defensive support in Big East match-ups against Providence (March 31), Villanova (April 7), Syracuse (April 21) and Georgetown (April 27).

Contino has appeared in and started every game of his Rutgers career, making 15 starts in both 2011 and 2012 in defense. Last season, he led the squad in caused turnovers with 24 takeaways. He additionally scooped 25 ground balls and assisted three goals.

Terranova appeared for RU in all 15 games in 2012, primarily as a defensive midfielder. He finished the season with two goals and five assists, as well as 13 ground balls and four caused turnovers. He saw action in all but two games in 2011, netting six goals.
