Cornell's 2013 Lacrosse Schedule Includes Big City Classic

ITHACA, N.Y. Ben DeLuca, the Richard M. Moran Head Coach of Cornell Lacrosse, has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2012 season. The slate is an exciting one, highlighted by a regular-season finale against Princeton as part of Inside Lacrosse's Big City Classic, held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Overall, the Big Red will play six home games and face seven opponents that participated in the 2012 NCAA tournament. As always, the Big Red schedule will also feature the ever-competitive Ivy League conference games, several games with traditional rivals and the fourth season of the Ivy League Tournament.

"My staff and I are very excited for our 2013 schedule," said DeLuca. "We're thrilled to continue our partnership with Inside Lacrosse and participate in one of their premier events for the third straight season. We think the Big City Classic is a great opportunity for our huge New York City alumni-base to come out and watch us compete. Playing in an NFL stadium brings an added air of excitement to this classic Ivy League match-up, and the big stadium environment will be a great way to prepare our team for potential postseason play. We've also added some new games against opponents we've either never played before, or that we haven't played against for many years, so that should offer some new challenges. We feel that our schedule, which includes a stretch of road games spanning the entire month of April, will provide the types of challenges we need to prepare our team for Ivy League play and beyond."

The Big City Classic will feature the marquee match-up in Ivy League lacrosse, the Cornell and Princeton rivalry, on Saturday, April 27 at 4:00 p.m. The two squads have combined for 50 conference titles, sharing the crown in five of the past 10 seasons. The Tigers won last season's meeting to increase its slim lead in the all-time series to 38-34-2, but Cornell has taken eight of the last 11 contests.

The Big City Classic will also feature a game between Notre Dame and Syracuse at 6:30 p.m. Tickets c will go on sale on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 11:00 a.m. To purchase tickets, call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or log on to Fans interested in saving on group ticket purchases of 10 or more should call 201-460-4370. The Big Red may end the regular-season in New York City, but it will open the 2013 campaign in more familiar territory, as it takes on Hobart at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. on Sunday, Feb. 24. The game will be the 133rd meeting between the two programs, with the Big Red holding an 82-47-4 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 1896. After the Big Red dropped five consecutive meetings with Hobart from 1996-2000, the Big Red has won 11 of the last 12 meetings. In his fourth season at the helm of the Statesmen's program, Coach T.W. Johnson led Hobart to a 4-9 record overall and a mark of 2-4 in the ECAC conference in 2012.

The Big Red will then open the home portion of its schedule in a midweek game against instate rival Binghamton on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The Bearcats, which finished the 2012 season with a 4-9 record, has not beaten the Big Red in nine tries.

Cornell will remain in Ithaca the following weekend as it welcomes upstate foe Colgate to Schoellkopf Field on Saturday, March 2. The Big Red, which owns a 38-7-1 record in the series, has won eight consecutive contests with the Raiders, but the two teams have not played since 2007. Colgate, under the direction of second-year head coach Mike Murphy, is coming off a breakout season in which it posted a 14-4 record and earned its first-ever NCAA tournament victory.
