Marist 2013 Lacrosse Schedule Includes Trip to Face Duke

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. The Marist Athletics Department and head coach Keegan Wilkinson have released the schedule for the 2013 season. The Red Foxes finished 2012 with a 6-8 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the conference. This spring, Marist will play a 13-game schedule, which includes five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League contests.

The Red Foxes' schedule begins with two home games, with the home opener against the America East champions Stony Brook on Feb. 16 and Sacred Heart a week later on Feb. 23. Marist defeated both teams in 2012, beating Stony Brook in an impressive come from behind 10-9 victory and holding off the Pioneers 12-10.

Marist will then hit the road for the next two weeks for three non-conference match-ups. On March 2, the Red Foxes will travel to Easton, Pa. to face off against Lafayette who they beat in an impressive 11-10 overtime victory at Tenney Stadium last season. The following week, Marist will play Towson on March 8 and Duke on March 10. The Blue Devils head into the 2013 season with a nation's-best 10-game home win streak and won the ACC Tournament Championship in 2012. Last year, the Red Foxes led Duke by two goals going into the fourth quarter, but fell to the Blue Devils in the final minutes, 11-10.

On March 16, the team opens its MAAC portion of the schedule against Detroit at Tenney Stadium. In 2012, the Red Foxes suffered a heartbreaking overtime 8-7 loss to the Titans.

The team will travel to Canisius, the reigning 2012 MAAC Champions, on March 23 where they will be looking for revenge after being defeated 7-5 last season. A week later the Red Foxes will play VMI on March 30 and Delaware on April 3.

Following the Delaware game, Marist will head to Jacksonville for a game on April 30. The Red Foxes will then face-off against Siena in their final home contest of the year. The Saints went 6-0 in 2012 during regular MAAC play.

Three days later, Marist will travel to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's, looking to avenge last season's 10-9 overtime loss in Poughkeepsie. On Saturday April 27 Marist will play at Manhattan in the regular season finale.

The 2012 MAAC Championships will be hosted by Canisius at the Demske Sports Complex May 3-5. The top four teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the tournament. Marist has reached the semifinals the past three seasons.

"Our staff could not be more excited about the 2013 season," Wilkinson said. We have an extremely challenging non-conference schedule, including games against 2012 Final Four participant Duke, last season's America East Champion Stony Brook and also three members of a great CAA Conference. We look forward to these contests which should be great preparation for our team heading into MAAC conference play."
