Vermont Lacrosse to Face Five NCAA Tourney Teams in 2013

BURLINGTON, Vt. University of Vermont released its schedule for the upcoming 2013 season today. The Catamounts will face off against five teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season.

Vermont opens the 2013 season playing four of its first five games on the road. The Catamounts begin the season with a contest at Colgate on February 16. UVM will host Marist on February 23 in its home opener at Virtue Field.

The Catamounts will then hit the road for a game at Siena (Feb. 27) and will spend spring break in Oregon, taking on the Ducks on March 4 and Davidson on March 6. Oregon reached the NCAA Tournament last season after finishing a perfect 7-0 in conference play and 14-5 overall.

Following the spring break trip to the West Coast, UVM returns to play four of the next five games at Vritue Field. UVM hosts Quinnipiac on March 9, Columbia on March 16, and Denver on March 20. The lone road game during the stretch is set for March 13, when Vermont travels to UMass. The Minutewomen won the Atlantic 10 Championship last season on their way to an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Vermont opens up America East Conference action on March 23 when it hosts Stony Brook, the America East Runner-Up from last season.

Vermont's final regular season contest of the year will be an April 27 match-up with defending America East Champion Albany. The Great Danes went 11-5 last season on the way to winning their second straight America East title.

The top four teams in the final regular season standings will advance to the America East Tournament, which will be played on May 2 and 4 on the campus of the highest seed.

Vermont returns 21 letterwinners from last season's squad, including the team's leading goal scorer, junior Sydney Mas. The Catamounts also add seven new freshmen to a team that finished 9-8 overall last season.
