Adelphi MLax Aids in Hurricane Sandy Cleanup

Long Beach, N.Y. On Saturday, November 17, members of the men's lacrosse team took time out of their day to head down to Long Beach and aid in the cleanup of the area due to the devastation incurred from hurricane Sandy.

Eric Janssen, Kevin Kennedy, Joe Giardina, Dan Moriarity, Brian Carney, Vincent Alestra, Joseph Sciara, Bryan Morrit, James Maroney, Steven Beckwith, Nicholas Massaro, Anthony Rainone, Joe Cellano, Aidan Bennardo and Nick Olsen and his family all spent the entire day helping to clean up the damage caused by the hurricane.

The team pitched in with everything they could including removing downed trees, clearing out houses of ruined electrical appliances, furniture, bed sets and even ripping down sheet rock and insulation and took out any debris that needed removing and brought it to the curb. When all was said and done, the men's lacrosse team helped clear a total of 12 houses on the day.

Aidan Benardo "It felt great to help out many families that were affected by the super storm," said senior goal keeper, Adian Bennardo. "The devastation and destruction is unbelievable. Seeing people's possessions and belongings ripped out and tossed to the curb was a very sad moment and left me with a lasting impression. It also makes you appreciate everything you have."

"I am very grateful to be part of a program that is so willing to help others," stated Gordon Purdie, Head Coach of the men's lacrosse team. "The team stepped up this weekend and I am more than proud of their efforts. The Olson family was especially helpful in making the day a successful one by providing transportation to and from Long Beach, food and beverages, gloves, masks and power tools that enabled the team to help support the community."
